"Live Birth" A red-sided mother garter snake with her children. One of my mixed-media illustrations for Snakes! Long, Longer, Longest, Scholastic 2006.
There is nothing more delightful to me than watching my children grow. Here's a photo of Bethany, Ryan, and Kerrin after Bethany's oboe recital at the New England Conservatory.
A week ago, Kerrin generously donated 10+ inches of that long hair to Locks of Love. www.locksoflove.org
She is so overjoyed knowing that her hair will go into a wig for a needy child. Much thanks to the salon that gave her her cut, La Novita' Salon and Spa in Randolph, MA. She not only received a wonderful haircut for free, but the salon treated her like a fairy princess! Here's what she now looks like:
Ryan, of course, doesn't shave and then shaves! For my birthday, Karlene treated me to lunch at the Cheescake Factory and also a lavish haircut of my own at Blu Salon on Newbury Street www.blusalon.com My thanks go to my stylist Leila for making me look, ah, about 36. Although my new du is special, the very best part of the day was simply buying each of us coffee at Starbucks and then strolling along Newbury St. with my darlings. Karlene, ever the fashion police, was aghast at my wearing Converse Chucks with a Burberry happy scarf, so I'm not posting my photo from the day - but here's the dynamic duo:
Here are a couple of my other "mom" illustrations.
"Zebra Sharks" An adult zebra shark with her children - note the young zebras have stripes which disappear and change into spots as it matures. One of my mixed-media illustrations for Sharks! Big, Bigger, Biggest, Scholastic 2005.
"37 Black Sea Bass" A black sea bass with her 36 kids! Talk about a school of fish! One of my colored pencil illustrations for Ocean Counting Odd Numbers, Charlesbridge 2005.
