These illustrations are from a series I did for Chickadee Magazine's June issue. Six illustrations in all, the story details the birth and journey of a Monarch butterfly from it's roots in Canada to it's home in Mexico. I was asked to illustrate a Mexican woman scientist - so I used my lovely daughter Karlene as my model. These illustrations were created using colored pencils, gouache paint and Photoshop. I do my art much larger than the final printed version; and I think the 'shrinkage factor' adds to my realism.
